SPIRIT FORUM VISION & MISSION

 Milt Markewitz – November 17, 2010

Vision

Our vision is to be a local organization that is part of a global movement of spiritual enlightenment, social justice, and peaceful coexistence. Each of these objectives is governed by highly ethical behavior – every bit as present in our path to the future as in the future itself. Our diversity will be defined by the recognition of our parallel paths borne out of differing beliefs, ceremonies and symbolism yet in a community bound by a common sense of humanity and appreciation for all life. We will be a learning community capable of suspending our disbelief as we listen with a newfound wisdom that is continually evolving. We will be part of the celebration of a new world understanding, and the perpetuators of appreciation and hope while it is coming into being.

Mission

Our mission is to deepen our spirituality by learning from the wisdom cultures who are in relationship with all of their surroundings – the natural world, generations past and future, their land, language and lore. Our intent is to meet monthly, in gatherings that are open to all, and through teaching, dialogue and embodiment exercises create positive, life changing experiences.

Description

The Spirit Forum meets the 1st Friday of each month, except March, June, September and December when we will meet the 1st Sunday of each month from 2;30 to 4:30. All Forums are at the First United Methodist Church, 1838 SW Jefferson, Portland, OR 97201.

The 1st Friday format may vary but generally we adhere to the following schedule:

11:45 Check-in & Lunch (brown bag) & Introductions

12:15-1:15 Short Presentation, Reflective Questions & Triad Sharing

1:15-1:30 Group Sharing & Closing

The 1st Sunday will be the same except that it will begin at 2:30 and because there is no brown bag lunch, the short presentation will start around 2:45.
